Faith, he muses, is truly terrifying. A reliance upon conviction with nothing more than a gut feeling behind it can make anyone question whether what they believe is right, even if they never admit it out loud.

Fuji has faith in abundance. It is the quiet knowledge that he will win whenever he gets onto the court, without even the slightest doubt, regardless of their abilities. It is the equally strong notion that, no matter what he says, Yuuta doesn't truly hate him.

These things fall flat when he passes Tezuka in the hall, sees his fist clench, and expression darken, and he wonders if this will be the day that Tezuka will finally say he is tired of him.

He knows, he has faith that if it does happen, if this is the day, he will smile, be accepting, be understanding, because no matter what, he feels like Tezuka deserves this kindness regardless if he feels like falling apart.

Fuji's almost positive that Tezuka, who is walking towards him, will ask to talk after school, frown on his face, and tell him in halting words that it was all a mistake. He is sure of it. But, and Fuji knows that surprise is obvious on his face, all Tezuka does is rest his hand on his shoulder, silently, and looks at him for a few moments before leaving, squeezing his shoulder once before he goes back to his class.

He stands there, unable to move, and watches as Tezuka leaves and he realises then that it's not Tezuka he needs to have faith in, because, Fuji thinks, he already has faith in his Captain, and there's not a worthier person in the world.
