She was there next to me, her smile a little shy. The sky above the playground was false and tainted, yet she looked at it as if it was azure. She always took me by my fingers; her laughter ringing in my ears as we traveled down the slide.
She hid everything else – her memories and sadness, and gave me all she had left. The tears that sometimes twinkled in her eyes never fell -- although I never stopped wondering, I never bothered to ask.
I know I should have held on tightly to her hand, and not let her fall.
