Wednesday afternoons normally weren't too bad. There was a sense of dragging by the time it got to mid week, and there always seemed to be a lot of work on Wednesdays. But it wasn't usually too bad and normally Squall got back in time for a late dinner, cooked by master chef Seifer Almasy. That evening, however, he'd had to call Seifer to say he wouldn't be back 'til much later. Already there'd been problems with his meeting on Thursday, and he had to sort them out.
Usually, he got a little more warning than he'd got and would've had time to sort things out.
As it was, he needed to prepare to take Thursday off and head off into some god forsaken part of Galbadia, far from Garden, far from his office, and more importantly, to his mind, far from Seifer.
He got back at something past midnight, that night.
Seifer was asleep. Asleep on the sofa in the attempt of waiting up for him, and Squall smiled a little at the thought that Seifer always seemed to fall asleep waiting for him. There were a couple more digs about Seifer's housewife tendencies to be made from that. But not quite then.
"Seifer?" he asked softly, leaning down to brush his lips over his lover's. He waited a moment and pulled back as Seifer stirred.
"Shit... didn't mean to fall asleep here. What time is it?"
Squall smiled teasingly. "Past your bedtime."
In answer, he just leaned down and kisses him again. They were quiet for a moment, and then Squall pulled back, running a hand through his hair with a sigh. "Sorry I'm so late. You didn't have to wait up for me."
"I wanted to."
"Well... I need to get some sleep now. Early morning."
Seifer raised an eyebrow. "I thought -- "
"Plans have changed. I... I won't be back until Friday morning."
Seifer stood up with a sigh, taking Squall into his arms and holding him close, nuzzling against his temple. "You do too much, you know that? Always letting Cid boss you about, always letting Garden's sponsors tell you what to do when they don't have the faintest idea, and then sorting out their messes."
Seifer smiled and kissed him one more time. "Come on. Let's get you tucked up in bed."
